Buttons

Buttons are found on clothing; they can be the eyes of a child’s stuffed animal as well as a cute border on the scrapbooking page. Growing up, these notions were a common item in the house because of sewing being one of mom’s favorite pastimes. A miniature doll dressed in purple sits on one of my shelves, her arms and legs made of these plastic embellishments.

Buttons

Today, these embellishments, also known as knobs, can be an intriguing part of any scrapbook page. They can border a picture, function as envelope and pocket closures or whatever shape the imagination requires.

Colors and types can be found in craft stores like Joanns or Michael’s or any other specialty scrapbook store in your area. Use them to coordinate with whatever theme you would choose. Create a star for Independence Day or Christmas or make a wave with a bunch in blue for the time you spent on the beach.

Glue is one way to attach these notions, but here we will show a method done in three steps.

Step One: Tack the knob in place with an adhesive dot.

Step Two: Poke holes in the cardstock by inserting a paper piercer through the holes.

Step Three: Pull string, thread or fiber through the holes and knot.

Time Savers:

To save time, thread and knot the string on the knob first, then simply attach it to the cardstock with adhesive dots or glue.

Sometimes these embellishments have shanks instead of holes. For these, snip them off with wire cutters, then attach to the layout with adhesive dots.
