Embellishments for Scrapbooking – Different Scrapbooking Embellishments using Intermediate and Advanced Embellishment Techniques
Embellishments for scrapbooking fall generally into different areas of difficulty once you go beyond basic scrapbooking. Those different scrapbooking embellishments that will be shared here will fall either into intermediate or advanced embellishing. Some types of embellishments for scrapbooking may fall between these two areas, but I will do my best to put each in the most appropriate category. Either way, if you feel you want to try a particular embellishment technique, I say go for it. As new ideas come around, the lists will grow.
Intermediate embellishing generally involves the use of chalk, metallic rub-ons, color-blocking, slide mounts,
picture mosaics
, shaker boxes, and other different scrapbooking paper crafts techniques such as
crumpling cardstock
paper piecing
, sanding, tearing and learning methods of creating your own
specialty papers
through the use of herbs. Ever wander through a scrapbook store and not quite find the right scrapbook paper for your project? I ran into that dilemma recently as I have been working on a birthday gift for my niece and it so happens she likes landscapes now. I just couldn’t find anything that fit that description. What to do? I visited the nearest Staples and bought a package of photo paper in mat, some colorful binding rings and I was off to start my project. What I had in mind was to print up photos of places my husband and I have been and which would make good landscape backgrounds. Below is a photo of the beginnings of my project.

So this is another method of creating unique scrapbook paper of your own. The idea came to me as I was viewing other people’s digital scrapbook papers. Of course, if I go to making my own stash of paper via my personal photos very much, I am sure it would behoove me to visit the nearest Staples or Kinko’s to do mass printing. Much more economical.Other embellishments for scrapbooking will fall more in the advanced embellishing area. Some of those techniques I have already used in my pages, such as the use of glitter, paints (Scribbler), and stamping (like when I put together our honeymoon scrapbook album. Other advanced embellishing techniques include color wash, crystal lacquer,
decoupage
, utee, image transfers (rubbings), metal stamps, metallic leafing, the use of mica, paint texture, watercolor, pigment powders, polymer clay, stitchery, shrink plastic and texture paste. We will also look at how to do handmade scrapbooking embellishments and making 3-D embellishments for scrapbooking.
