Hinges for Scrapbooking
Hinges are found in scrapbook shops as well as the hardware section of home improvement stores. Why is that? This piece of hardware is for scrapbooking, not just door edges and books anymore. I remember Ole's in my own hometown years ago with all the metal doodads displayed up and down the various aisles. Who would have thought that they would become a part of the scrapbook page?
Because these embellishments can have an oily residue on them from the manufacturing process, you will want to wash them up in some warm, soapy water. Dry well so as to avoid spots.
You can use hardware for scrapbooking in three basic ways.
Hide journaling or additional photos behind a paper panel. This is when you do not want the journaling or photo to be automatically obvious to everyone.
Create interactive pages. When you want to make your parts moveable, as to conceal an answer to a question or a joke, this accessory becomes useful.
Of course, you can also use this scrapbook tool for a fixed embellishment just to add texture and interest.
Some companies create latch style scrapbook albums and so we have this type of scrapbook along with others like the post-bound that allow for a wider space between pages.

You can attach this embellishment with a brad or an eyelet. Attach it to the top photograph or element. Place the element where you would like it to rest and attach the other half of it with adhesive dots or metal glue. You can attach the bottom half with a fastener, but it could prevent the flap from lying flat if width and height is too much.
These metal scrapbooking latches are attached open with brads or eyelets, allowing both halves of the hardware to be seen. Another method is attaching it closed with the embellishment glued to the back of the top element so only the narrow edge of the steel hinge is exposed.
