Scrapbooking Organization

Scrapbooking organization comes in different styles and flavors. According to Memory Maker’s magazine 2008 winter issue, people are either ritualistic, constant, or chaotic in their organization. The magazine has a quiz that can help you determine what kind of scrapbooking organizer you are.

Whether working on a project at home or carrying supplies to another destination, having a decent scrapbooking workspace is important. A different scrapbooking storage system must come into play on the go as a new scrapbooking storage solution is sought on the market everyday.

Scrapbooking organizers come up with different scrapbooking storage ideas all the time. Watch a shopping network and learn about all the neat scrapbook gizmos and gadgets to help in the efforts of scrapbook organization.

The first lesson in getting better at scrapbook organization is to be consistent about staying organized and keeping the clutter out of our lives that is only interference. I recall many times in conversation with one of my sisters, how the topic of being organized would come up. Her advice is that everything has a place and everything should be in its place. I think that this ideal fits well into scrapbooking organization. Once you have decided what type of organizer you are, you choose the method of scrapbooking storage and organization that best fits you.

Another scrapbooking storage idea in scrapbook organizing is to set aside a scrapbooking room. With scrapbooking rooms, any kind of craft or scrapbook project could be left out. For instance, when I was first putting my nieces and nephews photos into a scrapbook, I used an old card table as my scrapbooking workspace. If I needed to go somewhere or help out with something in another part of the house, I could do that without having to pick up my work in progress.

I still have that card table today. Another scrapbooking furniture piece I have is a wood pantry I use as a scrapbooking cabinet. I bought this at a Big Lots store for around $90.00. In it I keep scrapbook paper, fabric and various scrapbooking embellishments. If you think about it, maybe you can use an available desk for scrapbooking or find a way to store your scrapbooking on the wall around you. If you go with this method, besides turning your work into art, try storing what you need in pretty tins on small shelves. I like using my Hershey’s tins.

I also use clear plastic, pvc-free carts to hold many of my ribbons, papers, and miscellaneous scraps. You would want to steer clear of pvc material as this is known as “poison plastic,” and can be harmful as non-archival material. Several stores have been phasing out pvc plastics. One place is Wal-Mart. There are others as well. Look at this organization to find out more about PVC’s. Some digital forms of storage solutions for your scrapbooking organization plan come in the form of back-up devices. In a computer course a decade ago, a couple methods of saving one’s work in case the computer crashed were passed on. Always save your work as you go and be sure to do a back-up. I own a back-up storage device called “My Book” by Western Digital. This is one way to go in storing your photos for scrapbook purposes and other important documents. It’s also a good way to keep your main hard-drive and memory card free enough to operate at an optimum speed. Too much stuff on the desktop can slow it down just as bad as too many people on the internet all at once. Like so many others I used to take 35 mm pictures and have them developed and then placed on a CD by a company such as Snapfish. They will hold your photos suspended in cyberspace for an occasional purchase at the least. But, they will remind you. Ignore them too long and you might not see your photos there anymore. At least, that is what they say. Flickr is another program where you can save your photos and interact with other Flickr members. Google's Picasa and Windows Photo Gallery also help to save in one place and track specific photos in online albums for easy access and continual use for many projects.

Again, consider what kind of scrapbooking organizer you are. From there, consider the organization method that best suits you and your scrapbooking storage needs, from the physical to the digital world. Have fun scrapbooking while knowing where your scrapbooking stuff is.
