Scrapbooking your favorite family memories involve the feelings associated with growing up, and are the reasoning behind why we like saving family keepsakes for scrapbooking. How many times I keep a napkin, or wrapping paper or pieces of jewelry I don’t wear anymore in case I can incorporate them into a layout about my family.
I started my scrapbooking journey in the year 2000 with scrapbooking my favorite family memories involving my nieces and nephews. I was very good about taking pictures of all of them and their activities from the time they were still toddlers. I kept a chronological layout of each child, counting each year for quite some time.
Scrapbooking your favorite family memories include the necessity of keeping up with the photos you took as well as keeping a journal. Journal writing will help refresh your memory about the past event. One of the things I did in that regard was to make a list of as much as I could remember so that I would not forget to include some really important stuff. It’s hard to go back (unless you are doing this digitally) and redo your photos once they are done.
I would also put together in separate piles, all embellishments and keepsakes associated with the event. Those elements not specifically associated I would use as seemed fit.I did not have a lot of fancy scrapbook paper either at that time. Since I was a crafter, I used different craft material with my scrapbook projects. You could do the same if you are in the same boat I was. I still don’t have a whole lot, but more than I used to.
For instance, I used embroidery floss to outline my photos I would lay out on the page. I used an self-adhesive album, called a Jumbo Magnetic album by some, so I could lay out my work on the sticky part and just lay the film down over it and it stayed. Since then, I have learned to use other adhesives, such as Elmer’s glue stick, a glue gun, paste and so on. Yes, there is concern about magnetic self-adhesive albums, and some of them are still out there, but the ones I have from back then are still good. Most albums, you should know, must be kept out of the light of the sun. I keep mine put away unless someone wants to look at them or if I feel the urge to walk down memory lane. Another element I used was my gel pens which I used to draw as well as write out the journaling. Today I am still fond of using my scribbler paints on my pages as well. I would say to wait till the next day in most cases to handle your pages should you choose to use the paints in scrapbooking your favorite family memories.
Probably my best advice regarding scrapbooking your favorite family memories is to plan out what you will do in an outline form, giving it some thought, but then allow for those ah-ha creative moments that come along in the middle. Decide ahead of time if you want to keep a certain style throughout the whole album or if you are okay with the eclectic feel you might have if you just go with the flow.
In any case, you might want to pick up a book in the store or in your local library to help you out with some basics. Hope this information helps. Happy Scrapping!!
